adaptive reuse, Sullivans Cove, Hobart

Originally constructed in 1929 for the Huon Fruit Growers' Company, this iconic waterfront building in Sullivans Cove has undergone a sensitive and innovative adaptive reuse. Preserving the historic integrity of the building’s architectural shell, our design approach embraces the distressed state of the original structure, allowing its rich character to remain an integral part of the experience.

The new fit-out introduces a sophisticated contemporary aesthetic that complements the building’s industrial heritage, creating a seamless dialogue between old and new. The result is a dynamic mixed-use space featuring residential accommodations, commercial areas, and luxury short-term stays, all while maintaining a deep connection to its stunning waterfront location.

At its core, this project highlights the importance of place, with the building’s historical significance and direct relationship to the riverfront serving as key elements in shaping its renewed identity.
