The brief was to create an iconic structure on the hilltop at a new subdivision in the east of Melbourne, to help bring focus and a sense of place to a new community. At a practical level it’s a BBQ shelter but its scale and position, looking out across a wide flat series of housing developments has created an instant and popular landmark.
